Wath upon Dearne

Wath upon Dearne is a small town that is located in the north of the borough. The attractive town centre is a mix of traditional and new developments and has been designated as a conservation area.The area benefits from the surrounding countryside.There is a variety of housing in the town including detached, semi detached and terraced properties and the community are well provided for with a number of facilities, including a library, health centre, police station, neighbourhood office, leisure and sports facilities. A full range of education is provided from infant schools to comprehensives, the Dearne Valley College and the Humphrey Davey School of Nursing which is part of Sheffield University are located at Manvers.
 
Transport links to other towns in South Yorkshire are good, with bus links to Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and the other Dearne towns. There is also access to the M1 J36 via the Dearne Valley Parkway. The main employers in Wath were the two collieries, Wath Main and Manvers until their closure, the site has now been reclaimed for business use.

West Melton

The village of West Melton adjoins Brampton and lies to the west of Wath upon Dearne with around 5000 residents and benefits from its location close to open countryside. There is a range of housing in the area, including terraced, detached and semi detached. The area is served by a number of bus routes coming from Barnsley to Rotherham, Doncaster and other Dearne Towns, there is also access to the M1 J36 via the A6195 Dearne Valley Parkway.

Brampton Bierlow

Brampton is a former mining village which served the Cortonwood Colliery before its closure. This site has now been redeveloped for retail and business use. Today it has population of around 3000 people and benefits from the surrounding countryside.The housing in the area is dominated by former National Coal Board Housing although the area has seen growth in new housing both at the Lakeside development and on Barnsley Road.

There are a number of bus routes coming from Barnsley to Rotherham, Doncaster and other Dearne Towns, there is also access to the M1 J36 via the A6195 Dearne Valley Parkway.

Swinton including Piccadilly

The neighbourhoods of Swinton and Piccadilly merge into one community. It has a good range of facilities which include a shopping precinct, community hall, swimming pool, library and neighbourhood office. Health and health care is good as there are a number of doctor’s surgeries and there is a full range of educational facilities provided from infant schools to a comprehensive, the Dearne Valley College and the Humphrey Davey School of Nursing which is part of Sheffield University are located at Manvers.There is a variety of housing in the area including terraced, semi detached, bungalows and town houses

Swinton also benefits from good public transport links with a train station linking it with Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster and Leeds, a number of bus routes also go through the area.There is access to the countryside and public rights of way from Piccadilly and the canal runs through the area. 

Kilnhurst

Kilnhurst is a small community which benefits from its location due to it’s good access to the surrounding countryside and the canal running through its centre. The properties comprise of a mix of terraces, semi detached and bungalows.
