Greasbrough, Munsbrough, Rockingham and Wingfield
These areas are located in the north of the Rotherham West Area Development Framework populated by around 8000 people. The area benefits from easy access to the countryside and green spaces, with areas of Rockingham and Greasbrough having views over open countryside. The four communities have a wide variety of housing in the area including flats, terraced, semi detached and detached houses. Community facilities in the area centre around Munsbrough Rise which has a library, neighbourhood office, medical facility, school and a number of shops.
Kimberworth Park
With a population of 8,500 Kimberworth Park is a sustainable housing estate and is the largest single neighbourhood in the Rotherham West (ADF). The housing is low density and has been designed to incorporate areas of open space, the type of housing is predominately semi-detached and terraced. Families make up two thirds of the population meaning the demand for family housing is high. The estate has regular bus services to the town centre and a service linking the area to Meadowhall.
Kimberworth
Kimberworth is one of the larger neighbourhoods in the ADF with around 1300 households with high level of owner occupation (90%). Semi-detached is the most common property in the area. The area is well served by schools and the primary school performs above the Rotherham average. There are frequent buses to the town centre and Meadowhall and good access to the M1 at J34. Bradgate Park is the main green space in the area, which has benefited from recent improvements and there is good access to the local countryside.
Blackburn
Is a small neighbourhood on a steep site adjacent to the M1 motorway. When the M1 was constructed half of the original village was lost. Housing in Blackburn is typically 1950’s semi-detached. Blackburn Primary school performs well compared to Rotherham and the National average.
West Hill, Hill Top and Richmond Park
The topography and views over the Don Valley have been instrumental in directing the layout of these areas. The housing itself is mixed and low density but there are a high number of flats. Richmond Park is a council estate but only 28% of the properties are still council owned. West Hill, Hill Top and Richmond Park are regarded as popular and stable neighbourhoods, and with the completion of the Decent Homes investment programme, should prove to be sustainable over time.
Hollywood
Hollywood Estate is an area of predominantly council housing, located to the south of Thorpe Hesley. The estate comprises of around 300 households, two thirds of the estate is owner occupied with a third remaining in council ownership. There is a broad mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced accommodation.
Masbrough, Thornhill, Henley, Holmes and Ferham
These areas lie to the west of Rotherham town centre. Housing types include flats, terraced and semi-detached properties. Recent investment in Ferham Park has provided a good range of recreational facilities. A new Sure Start Centre and PFI school at Ferham are key asset in the area.
Meadowbank
This area forms part of the gateway to Rotherham off junction 34 of the M1. The settlement consists of over 1000 households with semi-detached and terraced housing making up the majority of properties. Around half of the housing stock is in owner occupation and 30% in council ownership.
Canklow
Canklow has around 800 homes adjoining the town centre, so the area benefits from many of the facilities in the town centre. Housing is either semi-detached or terraced. The area benefits from good access to green spaces at Boston Castle and has its own recreation area.
