Borough Wide Regeneration Neighbourhood Profile

The Neighbourhood Profile Summary can help you to find more about the Borough Wide Regeneration area and it's Neighbourhoods.

Maltby is characterised by older social rented and private housing to the east and modern private estates to the west. The town centre has a loyal customer base and is home to two supermarkets and a useful cluster of civic buildings including a library, health centre and sports centre. There are a number of local retail units and community facilities.

Hellaby is adjacent to the M18 and has a mixed use of housing, commercial and leisure. The housing is situated on one side of Rotherham Road and consists of an approximate split of 50% semi-detached and 50% detached houses. Hellaby Industrial Estate takes full advantage of its location with industrial units being utilised by local businesses.

Bramley – Wickersley is one of the Borough’s most popular residential areas with any economic development being focused around the M18 Junction. Housing is predominantly privately owner occupied (over 80%) and the remaining is mixed rented.

Thrybergh is an historic settlement, dominated by the 14th/15th Century Church. The Country Park helps to improve the quality of the local environment. There is a local primary, junior and comprehensive school and a small number of shops but no major retail or commercial centre. Thrybergh is in the Dalton, Hooton Roberts & Thrybergh Ward and the housing is half privately owner occupied and half rented with the majority (42%) of the rented properties being Council owned.

Dinnington has been identified as a key settlement serving the south west of the Borough. A former mining community, the area has suffered from high levels of crime and deprivation, but is now undergoing change. The Coalfields settlement study has identified Dinnington as being a high order settlement, where growth and change could further enhance its role and support the needs of the local community and economy. It has a good accessibility, and improved public transport links bringing people into the town whilst ensuring its residents can reach a number of the surrounding areas.

Brinsworth is a former mining and steel community with a broad mix of housing tenure. The area benefits from strong transport links and close proximity to the M1 and main arterial routes into Rotherham. In general the area is highly desirable with a good mix of house prices, however there are small pockets of poor quality private sector terraced housing requiring intervention.

Catcliffe sits within the Rother and Don Valley areas of the Borough. It is a former mining area with close links to main arterial routes and the Waverley regeneration area.

Treeton is a former mining village situated in a rural area of the borough. The area benefits from easy access to the M1 and Sheffield Parkway. In the past Treeton has not attracted residential development, however in recent years the area has undergone change and the former colliery site has been re-developed to provide new family housing. Housing is of mixed tenure, predominantly private sector owned and some in Council ownership.

Waverley is an area based on the opencast coal site, which will release more than 100 hectares of land for industrial and business development. It has the potential to significantly contribute to meeting housing and economic challenges facing Rotherham over the next 20 years. The area is important at regional level, as any change would have a significant impact on both Sheffield and Rotherham.

Aston, Aughton, Swallownest, Wales, Kiveton Park and Todwick are predominantly residential in character, surrounded by attractive countryside. They lay South West of Rotherham town centre, and dissected north to South by the M1 motorway.  Wales and Kiveton Park are ex-mining communities situated on the borders of Sheffield, Rotherham, and Nottinghamshire.
